Decorative ventilation grill

Air exchange is an integral part of comfortable indoor conditions. Proper organization of ventilation contributes to the health of the respiratory tract, increase overall immunity. The installation of the system is carried out by qualified specialists of a narrow profile, their work remains almost completely hidden to the eyes of others.

For viewing, only the ventilation hole is available, which is usually closed with a special grill. It can be built-in or laid on. The built-in is located inside, forms a single whole with the ventilation system. The consignment note is simultaneously part of the ventilation system and the interior. It performs a number of important functions.

Why do I need a decorative ventilation grill

The appearance of the grill was caused by the need to cover the unsightly dark hole of large size. Modern technologies provide her with a number of functions:

  • decoration of the hole;
  • distribution and direction of air flow;
  • air filtration;
  • noise reduction from the operation of the ventilation system.

We classify decorative lattices

Ventilation systems are not visible, we rarely think about their existence. They exist everywhere: in kitchens, in residential, public, industrial premises. The variety of their use has led to the appearance of a wide range. When choosing a decorative ventilation grill, it is advisable to first determine its main characteristics. Classification will help here.

By appointment

Depending on the requirements, you can set unregulated or adjustable grill. The price is adjustable an order of magnitude higher.

The main function of unregulated - decorative. She will also delay objects that can get from the ventilation to the room (fluff, garbage, etc.). The finer the holes in the pattern, the higher the filtration.

Reference! If you know about the presence of insects in the neighbors (for example, cockroaches, etc.), it is better to close the hole with a damper with a fine mesh pattern or with a mosquito net.

Adjustable grilles, in addition to the above options, can direct and control the strength of the air flow. Their designs use special valves, blinds, filters, manually or automatically controlled.

At the place of installation

Decorative ventilation grilles can block any openings designed for air exchange, not limited to the ventilation system. Location may be:

  • on the walls indoors;
  • on the facades of buildings for ventilation of attics, basements, other utility rooms;
  • on the ceiling;
  • in the doors of bathrooms, living rooms, in public institutions;
  • in the cabinet doors;
  • on the floor, usually with heating.

By type of construction

Ventilation grilles have different designs, from simple to complex, able to independently select the desired operating mode.

The built-in fan forcibly creates traction of a sufficiently large force. Before installing it, you must make sure that electricity is connected to the hole, or bring it.

If there is no fan, the airflow can be controlled by movable blinds. Their slats are fixed on the sides, open and close, increasing or decreasing throughput. Regulation can be manual or automatic.

The shut-off valve blocks the air flow if it goes in the wrong direction. The valve is a thin partition that can fold in one direction in half. Installation is made in such a way that when the air moves in the right direction, the halves of the partition are connected and do not impede the flow. Otherwise, the halves are straightened, block the clearance of the ventilation hole, and prevent the movement of air.

The principle of operation of inertial blinds is similar to a valve. Their slats rise only with the desired direction of air flow.

Diffusers create an obstacle to the flow of air already indoors, direct it along the walls. This design provides an influx of fresh air, does not cause discomfort.

The design of the ventilation grill allows not only to organize the air flow, but also to reduce noise pollution. For this, a sound-absorbing layer is used in the design, which does not impede the movement of air.

To prevent insects from entering the room, mosquito nets are additionally mounted.

By type of material

The most common materials are plastic, metal. Plastic grilles are lightweight, cheap. Their disadvantage can be called poor resistance to temperature and humidity changes.

Metal grills are made of aluminum, galvanized and stainless steel. Each metal has its advantages and disadvantages. Aluminum does not rust, but bends from light loads. Galvanized steel is durable but susceptible to corrosion. Stainless steel is durable, not susceptible to corrosion, but its price is significantly higher than aluminum or galvanized.

A small but stable niche in the market for ventilation grilles is occupied by brass, copper, bronze, and also to order from any other metal. As a rule, such grilles complement expensive repairs.

In rooms made of wood or with wood trim, wooden ventilation grilles look elegant. In other rooms, this choice is not particularly rational due to the low resistance of the material to external influences, especially moisture.

Choosing the right decorative grid

When choosing, you need to decide on the priorities. They differ depending on the room. Assess the operating conditions and the desired result:

  • how important is the aesthetic role;
  • the likelihood of stresses, such as pressure, shock;
  • Is natural traction enough?
  • how important is the direction of air flow;
  • temperature, its differences;
  • humidity.

For example, an intensive air outflow is important for a kitchen or bathroom. For living rooms, access to fresh air is important, while the flow rate is not so relevant. To install on the facade of the house requires a solid structure, resistant to temperature and humidity.

Mounting Features

The simplest and easiest grilles are fixed with self-tapping screws with dowels or expansion legs to the wall.

Under the massive ones, a special frame is installed on the wall and ventilation hole beforehand. It is advisable to install a rubber gasket between the frame and its mounting location to prevent vibration. The most reliable is the frame is mounted on the dowel. It is acceptable to use liquid nails or glue. In this case, you will need to dry them properly according to the instructions (usually about a day). The damper is mounted on top of the frame.
