How to make a sofa for dolls with your own hands

Starting to create a sofa, you should immediately prepare the necessary materials. For this purpose, you can use:

  • various cardboard boxes;
  • bags of juice or milk;
  • Styrofoam;
  • plywood sheets;
  • plastic;
  • plexiglass;
  • wooden boards;
  • the remains of parquet or laminate.

as well as other household and building materials.

As a filler for the upholstery, you can prepare a synthetic winterizer. You can buy it in a fabric store or flog it from an old jacket. Thin foam rubber or the material used to pack electrical appliances is also suitable. Even ordinary cotton wool can be used as a filler to create a doll’s sofa.

For upholstery, you can buy about 30 cm of fabric, but you can also use fabric from old things. It is desirable that it does not stretch, and be dense. It is convenient to use old jeans trousers for such furniture. Velor upholstery will look good. It can be taken from sports pants that have already become small. As a decor, lace, braid, buttons, rhinestones and other elements come in handy.

What tools will be needed

In order not to be distracted by the search for the right tool while creating a sofa for dolls, you must first purchase or prepare the following tools:

  • scissors;
  • pencil or pen;
  • a ruler of 30-50 cm;
  • stationery knife;
  • Scotch;
  • marker;
  • glue.

Important! It is better to use a hot glue gun or Super-moment glue. But if young children participate in the process, then you should be very careful and explain to them about the dangers at work.

How to make measurements

In order for the sofa to be the right size, you should take a doll for which it will be made and outline its contours on a piece of paper. To do this, they put it on a sheet and draw around with a pencil. Then 2-3 cm are measured from the doll’s head, the side is also increased by 2-3 cm and a rectangle is drawn. The length and width of the resulting rectangle will be the dimensions of the sofa bed.

The height of the sofa can be calculated. To do this, the resulting length of the berth must be divided by 4. The height of the armrests from the base of the sofa should be approximately 1.5 higher than the seat. The height of the back of the sofa can be any, but approximately 2 heights of seating.

For example, if the pupa has a height of 20 cm and a width of -6 cm, then, respectively:

  • the length of the berth will be - 20 + 2 = 24 cm;
  • the width of the berth - 6 + 2 = 8 cm;
  • seat height - 24: 4 = 6 cm;
  • the height of the back is 6 + 6 = 12 cm, and its width is 1.5 cm greater than the width of the seat - 24 + 1.5 = 25.5 cm.
  • the height of the armrests is 6 * 1.5 = 9 cm, and the width is 0.5 cm. less than the width of the sofa is 8-0.5 = 7.5 cm.

Sofa for dolls: step by step instructions

You should start making a sofa by creating a pattern. To do this, on a sheet of paper using a marker to outline the contours of future parts at the above calculated sizes. The edges of the back and armrests need to be rounded. In order for the rounding to turn out to be the same on all parts, for this purpose a round coin object or cork from a plastic bottle is applied to the desired edges and circled with a pencil.

For the sofa, the following details are required:

  1. Detail of a berth 2 pieces (one suitable for the bottom of the box).
  2. Back.
  3. Armrests - 2 pcs.
  4. The sides of the box (4 parts, 2 of them long for the front and back of the sofa and 2 short for the sides of the box).

Then take the cardboard and draw all the details on it. Moreover, the back and armrests should be cut in 2 copies.

To make the construction denser, you need to cut each part 2-3 times, and then glue them together.

At the next stage, the obtained parts should be pasted with foam rubber or synthetic winterizer. While the parts will dry out, you need to start cutting upholstery. Here you can show your imagination. There are many upholstery options.

The fabric must be pre-washed and ironed. Patterns are laid out on the fabric prepared in this way. In this case, you need to monitor the direction of the lobar threads on the fabric. If you do not observe this, that the cut out details may have a different look.

First, you should circle the fabric with a pencil around the pattern and give an allowance for bending of about 0.8-1 cm. Triangles are cut out on the rounded parts of the fabric left for the allowances so that there are no large creases.

Then each piece of cardboard should be glued with a cut out fabric. To do this, fabric parts are laid out with the wrong side up, and the part is laid on top. A hot glue from the gun extrudes a strip on the edge of the cardboard part, and then upholstery is glued by folding the fabric left on the allowance.

Important! No need to immediately apply glue to the entire perimeter of cardboard parts. This should be done gradually, lubricating at a time of approximately 5 cm.

The back and armrests cut in duplicate and glued on one side with a cloth are glued together. On top of the seams of glued finished parts of the back and armrests, so that there are no visible joints, you can glue with a suitable braid or strip of lace.

After the parts have dried, it is necessary to begin gluing the berth. To do this, the edges of the parts are coated with Super-moment glue or a glue gun, and alternately glued to the structure being created. Before gluing the bottom of the box intended for a berth, it can be filled with crumpled sheets of paper. This will add rigidity and stability to the structure. After that, you can seal the bottom of the box.

After drying the glued parts of the box, you need to glue the back of the sofa. To do this, smear glue along the contour of the back side of the box and put the back of the sofa. After this, the armrests can be glued in the same way on the sides.

Such a sofa for barbie can also be decorated with small pillows of sponges in the form of rectangles, circles or hearts from the same fabric as the upholstery on the sofa or from contrasting fabric. They can be decorated with embroidery, fringe or lace inserts. The inside of a stitched pillow can be filled with cotton, sintepon or foam rubber cut into pieces.
