Do-it-yourself niche made from drywall under the TV

A plasterboard niche for a TV is an interesting and beautiful element of interior design, which is suitable for a living room, a hall, and a bedroom.

This DIY element is a great solution, because it has the following positive properties:

  • a huge number of design options, so you can safely give vent to your imagination;
  • thanks to this element, you can hide the wires and sockets (which will not only provide an aesthetic appearance, but will also serve as an additional safety measure if there are small children in the house) and harmoniously fit the screen into any style you conceived;
  • its manufacture will not require significant financial investments and special additional skills from you, nor will it take much time and effort;
  • GCR is an easy, inexpensive and environmentally friendly material.

Let us dwell in more detail on the first point.

The design of a niche depends on the purpose for which it is used. In a small space, it will provide a compact TV arrangement, also serving as a wall. In large, it can serve as a means of zoning, separating one part of the room from another and playing the role of a kind of partition.

As for the shapes, the most common are the horizontal and vertical rectangles. On a free space not occupied by a TV, as a rule, there are speakers, a music center or shelves for books and souvenirs.

REFERENCE. There are also complicated types of forms, for which it is more rational to turn to professionals.

Properly selected lighting can completely transform a niche. The two most popular options are spot and LED (tape with directional light or a completely glowing neon cord).

LEDs provide a more uniform glow.

REFERENCE! If the light is supposed to be placed close to the TV, we recommend that you opt for LEDs, since they do not heat up.

The back side can be trimmed with decorative stone, pasted with murals or painted with light paint. A beautiful element of the interior: a decorative fireplace mounted in a niche under the TV.

Its optimal size should exceed the screen size by at least ten centimeters on each side. However, if you provide free space between the back of the TV and the back of the niche in order to avoid overheating, then it can adjoin to it almost flush.

If the TV does not attach to the bracket, but is placed on the bottom of the niche, you should make sure that it is wide enough for safe installation. It is also necessary to correctly calculate the width of the lower part, if you plan to put speakers, a console or a music center on it.

After the manufacture of the drywall construction, it is necessary to carry out finishing work. The standard sequence of actions includes:

  • putting putty on butt areas;
  • processing of all surfaces with a primer;
  • leveling by applying a second layer of putty;
  • completion of irregularities with sandpaper;
  • applying another layer of soil;
  • painting with paints and varnishes, as a facing option.

ATTENTION! Before finishing work, all necessary holes must be drilled for the location of the backlight and the laying of cables and wires.
