What is duplex in MFPs

Often you need to print a document on both sides and spend as little time as possible. When using conventional printers or MFPs, the first thing to do is print the text on one side, then turn the sheet over and do the same on another page. But, this process can be simplified by using the duplex function.

What is duplex technology in printers

The duplex function allows two-sided printing without interfering with this process. A printer with this technology can be called a machine that does not issue a command about the need to turn the sheet during operation.

The duplex job is not to turn the sheet over, but to return the paper along an alternative path so that it is turned the opposite side to the toner. After that, the sheet re-passes through the heating element and the drum. As a result of such a simple operation, the image appears on the other side.

The operation of such a technique is extremely simple and is no different from the rules for using familiar laser and inkjet printers. Visually, a technology with duplex functionality looks familiar and does not take up more space than would be required by another device of a similar configuration.

IMPORTANT! Such a printer is perfect for those who print documents, images constantly and in large quantities. It is ideal for those who try not to lose a minute while working. While the printer prints and flips sheets, you can do other work on the computer in the office or at home.

Features of duplex in MFP

All MFPs have an automatic feed function. This technology allows you to continuously supply paper to the device and produce printing, scanning and copying. Auto-feed in modern appliances can be one- or two-way. In multifunction devices using duplex, the last option is most often found. Such MFPs are called reversible.

Such functionality means that sheet feeding and turning are done automatically by the machine. This makes the process easier.

It is important to note that such devices have a significant minus - the cost. As a rule, the price of reverse MFPs exceeds the price of ordinary ones by 1.5-2 times. However, for people who often use such devices, this will be a minor drawback and the waste will quickly pay off.

In addition, for such multifunctional devices, a special stand or cabinet is necessary, since it will take up a lot of space on the table.

How to perform duplex printing

Duplex printing in various types of devices can be automatic and semi-automatic.

In the first case, before printing, you should set the parameters for duplex printing, including page layout of sheets and their format. Typically, a print operation from one side, and then from the other side, is performed first with the first sheet. After that, a new sheet is captured with which a similar operation is performed. In other cases, you can easily configure this process in additional sections.

As for the second type of printing, it is divided into built-in and software options. When using the first type, you can start working immediately after connecting the device to the network and installing the MFP driver. If not, then you should search for specialized software.

Follow these points:

  1. For duplex printing, you must set the page number. To do this, select "Insert", "Page Number" and the location of the numbers.
  2. After checking the fields on the page and their mirror location. To do this, click "Page Layout", "Fields" and "Mirror Fields".
  3. In the "Print" section, select "Duplex" and to confirm the operation - "Print".

If you often print documents and images, do it in large quantities, on both sides and do not want to spend a huge amount of precious time on this process, then the duplex device is created just for you! Choose the option you need and work with pleasure!
