Why the printer prints black sheets

Today, the printer is not a special peripheral device. Work related to text or graphic documents implies a periodic need to print files. However, unpleasant situations may arise in which the printout is in the form of black sheets. What to do in such a situation?

Why does the printer produce black sheets?

Basically, this kind of problem is found in laser devices. Typically, black sheets are printed after refilling the cartridge or during initial startup. First of all, you need to check whether all the parts are installed in the device. Then you need to try to leave the printer alone for a couple of hours. Then re-start the test printout.

If the problem is still not resolved, then it is necessary to consider the photocell (drum) of the device. This is a part of the cartridge, which is a hollow tube of aluminum alloy, coated with a photoconductive material, and gears are located on the sides. If the drum unit is lit up, it is impossible to restore it yourself without equipment.

Reference! The photocell is sensitive to light rays, therefore, when refilling the cartridge, it is necessary to wrap it.

Dirty cartridge contacts can also cause black sheets. To fix the problem, it is necessary to inspect and clean the contacts from contamination.

Also, the printer itself may be the source of the problem. To check it, you should install your cartridge on another device and check the quality of work. If the document was printed without a black background, then you should contact the service center. This kind of problem is almost impossible to fix.

In addition, the material used may be the cause of the black sheets. You cannot use fax paper for the laser printer. This is due to the fact that such sheets tend to blacken when heated.

Why is printing only black?

One of the main reasons for black and white printing is the wrong settings. To view the settings, you must go to the "printer properties" before printing. Then, on the "graphics" tab, select "additional options", and then uncheck the boxes next to: "Print all text in black" and "Print all text with blackout."

Some models of such devices may not function correctly due to insufficient ink in the cartridge. In this case, the system may use other colors as a substitute. To get started, you need to refill the cartridge or replace it.

Poor ink and incorrect cartridges can also interfere with the operation of the device. If you use poor supplies, the printer nozzle may become clogged. It is possible to clean the head using the control panel of the device. To do this, the printer must find the stop / reset button, then press and hold for 3 seconds. Then the cleaning process will begin.

Reference! During cleaning, the power indicator on the printer control panel should blink.

Why does the printer print with stripes?

Cases are common when stripes appear on documents when printing files. In this case, the stripes can be both horizontal and vertical, narrow and wide. First of all, the cause of the defect is the wear of parts due to the long-term operation of the printing device. For laser devices, bands can appear for the following reasons:

  1. The cartridge is damaged;
  2. Not enough ink;
  3. The waste device is full;
  4. The photocell is damaged.

Inkjet printers have the following reasons:

  • Ink runs out;
  • The printing mechanism is clogged with dried ink;
  • The print head is defective.

First of all, check the ink level. To do this, run the control program. Next, go to the "Service" or "Service" section and start the scan. If ink runs out, replace or refill the cartridge.

Reference! For printers with a Continuous Ink Supply System (CISS), ink levels are evaluated visually.

After checking the ink, clean the head. It is recommended to perform the cleaning programmatically:

  • Run the utility;
  • Go to the "Service" / "Service" section;
  • Start cleaning.

If the problem persists, it is necessary to repeat the cleaning 2-3 more times. For printers with CISS filters should be checked and replaced if necessary. Depending on the model, the print head can be located both in the device (Epson) and in the cartridge (HP, Cannon).

In case of rare use of the MFP or printer, it is recommended to run it at least once a week. In this case, just turn it on. If there is a breakdown of the printer itself, do not try to repair it yourself. Take the device to a service center for diagnosis and find out the cause of the breakdown and the cost of the repair. In some cases, it is more advisable to purchase a new printer. Carefully select the cartridges as well as replacement parts for repairs from trusted manufacturers.
