How to glue glass in the oven of a gas stove

On the network, in various forums, there are often questions that are associated with broken or cracked glass in the oven of a gas stove. Fortunately, there are many ways to glue glass.

When to glue glass

Most ovens have two or three glasses. All oven glasses are heat-resistant, but despite the increased heat resistance over time from frequent temperature changes, it may well lose its strength and crumble. Or, over time, constant exposure to high temperatures (especially in pyrolysis ovens), grease, fumes, and detergents getting on the original glue - it will lose its original sealant properties and the glass will simply peel off.

Reference! Also, mechanical damage can be the cause of destruction. A hit with a metal object, a skewed door, or a scratch from a pot or other kitchen utensil can destroy glass in the oven of a gas or electric oven.

What to do when peeling off or breaking glass

If the oven glass is damaged, then replacing it with any durable glass using universal glue will not lead to the desired result.

  1. For starters, the use of non-heat-resistant glass (even in a door with three layers, and it will be external). It may not withstand temperatures and burst.
  2. Most types of heat-resistant glue are not intended for use in food storage and cooking areas. Because they emit toxic fumes and this happens not only when heated.

Glass selection

When choosing, two main criteria must be taken into account, its heat resistance and size (not every glass can be accurately cut with a household glass cutter). The best option would be to order it on the manufacturer’s sites, service centers or contact them directly. Especially if it has irregular shapes.

How to choose glue

The main criteria for choosing glue are endurance to temperature extremes, elasticity and non-toxicity. Having studied many forums and online sources, we highlighted several types of glue. Most of which are silicone based sealants.

To repair kitchen appliances, you must take glue with a specialized composition. In order to be able to glue various materials well, withstand temperature extremes, so that it has elasticity and naturally is not toxic. Dow Corning Q3 - 1566 sealant glue is perfectly suitable for these parameters. It is sold in the form of paste, does not flow, does not lose elasticity at temperatures from -50 to + 275. I also saw RTV 118Q glue. It was marked on it that it can be used in food processing equipment.

There can be many different options, for example, LK glue glues different materials, can withstand temperatures up to 1100 degrees. There is still glue - titanium sealant and stuck. On the label it is written that they withstand temperatures up to 1500 degrees, and on titanium it is generally written that it is food.

There are also descriptions of other options, for example:

KLT - 30 silicone sealant. The description says that it is made on the basis of rubber, is used at exposure temperatures from -55 to + 250, and is not affected by moisture. If you believe the description on the label, then it is able to fasten plexiglass, ceramics and much more. It can be used as a seal for threaded water connections and so on.

Step-by-step instructions for fixing an oven with two glasses

  1. For ease of replacement, remove the door from the oven.
  2. Carefully remove the remnants of carbon deposits, old glue and so on, from the places of applying sealant.
  3. Gently apply lei to the bonding points of the inner glass. Put it in place, flip the door, laying it on a hard, flat surface. So that the glass does not move away from the place of bonding. Then grease the bonding points on the other side and install the second. For reliability, weights can be used. To wipe the remains of glue squeezed out under a weight with a napkin.
  4. Leave for a day.
  5. Replace the door and can be used.

Of course, the easiest option would be to take your stove for repair to a service center. But firstly, these are extra financial expenses for delivery and services rendered. Secondly, waiting in line, which means that during the repair you will have to use another device for cooking, which leads to another financial cost. And thirdly, the employees of some service centers are not accurate and can use low-quality material. And with self-repair, you can be sure that everything is done correctly and what means were used.
